Following an open call launched in May 2026 with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), five VR experiences have been selected. They will join Unframed Collection’s international catalogue, opening up new opportunities for distribution through festivals, museums and cultural venues worldwide. This partnership aims to showcase Taiwanese immersive creation and introduce these works to new audiences.
Supporting the International Distribution of Taiwanese VR Creation
Last May, TAICCA and Unframed Collection joined forces to launch an open call for Taiwanese artists and VR studios. Their goal was to create new opportunities for international distribution and help Taiwanese immersive works reach wider audiences.
Through this collaboration, both partners aim to open up new distribution opportunities for Taiwanese immersive works. To achieve this, they will draw on Unframed Collection’s international network of museums, art centres, foundations, festivals, libraries and educational venues. The five selected works will join a dedicated Taiwanese VR selection within the Unframed Collection catalogue. This will support their long-term distribution through cultural programmes, exhibitions and international events.
From piracy in the South China Sea to the traditions of the Tao people, from memories of a family home to explorations of the subconscious, and a choreographic work addressing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the selection spans a wide range of subjects and creative worlds. The works are equally diverse in their artistic approaches. They combine techniques such as volumetric capture, 2D and 3D animation, contemporary dance, interactive storytelling and sound design.
The Five Selected Works
Madame Pirate: Code of Conduct
By Morgan Ommer and Dan-Chi Huang
In the 19th century, the imperial forces of the Qing dynasty clash with a fleet of 70,000 Red Flag pirates. Amid the battle, a young interpreter named Lihn is captured. To survive, she must navigate between two opposing sides whose intentions and rules are very different from what she had imagined.
Inspired by the life of Zheng Yi Sao, one of the most renowned figures in Chinese piracy, Madame Pirate: Code of Conduct immerses audiences in the intrigues and power struggles of this chapter of Asian maritime history. This interactive 6DOF virtual reality adventure combines live-action volumetric capture using 4D Views technology with 2D and 3D animation, creating a distinctive visual world inspired by the aesthetics of comic books.

Sosowon: The Season of the Flying Fish
BY NINA BARBIER
On Orchid Island, off the southeastern coast of Taiwan, a young boy named Masarey shares everyday life with his grandfather, Syapen. In the waters surrounding the island, Sosowon, a flying fish, struggles to escape a fisherman’s net in order to reunite with and protect its family.
Rooted in the traditions of the Tao (Yami) people, for whom flying fish fishing holds a central place, Sosowon: The Season of the Flying Fish intertwines human and animal stories in a narrative infused with magical realism. Through the intertwined journeys of Masarey, Syapen and Sosowon, the work explores intergenerational transmission, courage and the deep connections between the island’s inhabitants and their natural environment, while inviting audiences to reflect on the fragility of marine ecosystems and the importance of protecting them.

The Awake
By Hsiao-Wei and Hsiao-Ting Hsieh
A motionless wheelchair, drifting curtains, a table set for two, a fish in its bowl. Gradually, these familiar objects shift, transform or disappear. In The Awake, everyday reality gives way to a space where dance expresses what words and bodies can no longer communicate.
Inspired by the experiences of people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, this choreographic virtual reality work gives shape to the inner worlds of individuals progressively losing their motor abilities. Through movement, the dancers embody their emotions, fears, desires and contradictions, in a narrative where movement paradoxically becomes a means of expressing immobility.

Home
By Chih-Yen Hsu
It is an ordinary summer afternoon. In an old family home, relatives gather around their grandmother, whose hearing and mobility have declined with age. They share intimate moments, enjoy ice cream together, catch up on each other’s lives. The television remains on, the fan keeps turning and conversations fill the rooms, until the rest of the family must eventually leave.
Home focuses on these seemingly ordinary moments in which essential relationships unfold. Without dramatizing the experience of ageing, the work observes the gestures of affection, everyday routines and silences that shape family life as one of its members gradually loses their independence.
Co-production: HSU CHIH YEN Director Studios, Kaohsiung Film Archive et Funique VR Studio.
Sense of Nowhere
By Hsin Hsuan Yeh
What happens when our thoughts draw us away from the world around us? How can we find our way back to the present when the boundaries between reality and imagination begin to dissolve? With Sense of Nowhere, Hsin Hsuan Yeh offers a virtual reality exploration of consciousness and the subconscious mind.
Drawing on Taoism, Buddhism and Jungian psychology, the experience gives tangible form to our fragmented thoughts, drawing us into a space where the inner world seems to take precedence over external reality.
Co-production: Joyful Beings Animation Studio, RE:Anima Joint Master
