The Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) has launched its first-ever VR exhibition, featuring “Monsieur Vincent”.
Starting November 3, visitors to Shanghai’s iconic MAP can embark on an immersive journey into the vibrant and deeply emotional world of Vincent van Gogh’s art.
This immersive experience directed by Agnès Molia & Gordon (coproduced by Lucid Realities, TSVP, Musée d’Orsay and VIVE Arts) offers to visitors a u nique journey into the vibrant and emotional world of Vincent van Gogh’s art. This new showcase has been managed by VIVE Arts and Unframed Collection. It is currently running for five months on the museum’s expansive fourth floor, covering 600 square meters and equipped with 60 VR headsets powered by Unframed Collection’s cutting-edge controller system.
A Unique Experience in a World-Class Setting
Located in the heart of Shanghai, the Museum of Art Pudong is renowned for its commitment to showcasing global artistic excellence. Designed by the acclaimed architect Jean Nouvel, the museum boasts an unparalleled dedication to innovative cultural experiences. The Monsieur Vincent exhibition aligns perfectly with MAP’s vision of integrating art and technology.
Lisa Zhang, Head of Exhibition at MAP, shared her excitement:
At the Museum of Art Pudong, we always strive to push the boundaries of art experience. The VR project Monsieur Van Gogh is a reflection of this philosophy. By opening up an immersive art experience, we hope that the audience will not just stand in front of the painting and enjoy it, but actually ‘step into’ the world of the work. The choice to present Monsieur Van Gogh in VR is based on a deep understanding of the extraordinary charm of Van Gogh’s art. This total immersion allows the viewer to delve into the details and brushstrokes of the paintings, crossing time and space to touch the great soul of the artist.
An Innovative Collaboration
The exhibition is the latest collaboration between VIVE Arts, Unframed Collection, and the world-renowned Musée d’Orsay, highlighting the transformative potential of VR in art appreciation. By bringing Monsieur Vincent to MAP, the project demonstrates a growing trend of incorporating virtual reality into cultural institutions in China.
Celina Yeh, Executive Director of VIVE Arts, emphasized the significance of this initiative:
We are delighted to bring Monsieur Vincent to MAP, our latest collaboration with the world-famous Musée d’Orsay and an engaging look into the artistic practice of Van Gogh. From this collaboration with MAP, we are observing the growing interest in VR experiences at major museums and institutions in China, and we are so pleased to contribute to and support this momentum.
An Immersive Journey into Van Gogh’s World
Thanks to innovative photogrammetry technology, one of Van Gogh’s last palettes is transformed here into an imaginary landscape upon which you will land. Narrated by actress Rebecca Marder, this interactive and sensory experience explores the artist’s masterpieces through the lens of color—the cornerstone of Impressionism—and the impasto technique so characteristic of his art.
The exhibition’s immersive design enables viewers to explore the intricacies of his brushwork and vibrant color palette, creating a deeply personal connection with the artist’s work and life.
Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience Van Gogh like never before!
